This project was part of an assignment for UCOL. This assignment was to write your own brief, and I had a set of projects I wanted to complete for my own portfolio. To have some more graphic design projects, including logos and posters, were part of this and using some existing, established brands helped with some of the projects.

PROJECT BRIEF

College Street Bakery is a business I drive past every day multiple times. So I know it well.

They currently use a white and green colour scheme and a blocky, sport-type text. Though this does fit a Manawatu region, I feel as a food bakery, this does not fit. Their food has a homemade, rustic aesthetic that I do want to bring through their brand.

Logo Design

I chose two texts for this logo. For the College Street part, I wanted something clean and curvy to represent their homey, kind feeling. For the bakery text, I wanted it to represent the homemade, rustic feel of the bakery food with the look of the text.

College Street Bakery is on the corner of a T intersection. I wanted to incorporate this as an icon within the logo as part of the ‘t’ of the street. Also added the drop pin and a baguette for bakery food and those together create a heart to represent their love for baking.

Chalkboard Concepts Designs

College Street Bakery has a chalkboard. I thought it was a great idea to show the opportunity for them to use their chalkboard for special occasion products, day-to-day quotes or sayings. Because College Street Bakery is on a busy road rather than a busy pass-by-walking road, I kept in mind to keep the designs big so it can be seen driving past.

This second design can be an everyday sign. Says the College Street Bakery and has illustrations of delicious bakery goods.

The first design is for easter time when they are baking hot cross buns. I’ve got an illustration of a hot cross bun, with text, also in small text, saying for a limited time. I’ve done a thin, swirly border-like icing and heart pattern to represent the baked with love and to fill the gaps.

This third design can also be an everyday sign. Lots of businesses use quotes, puns or jokes on chalkboards, too. So this one relates to the bakery saying Donut? Donut mind if I do! I added a doughnut illustration for added interest. I didn’t add anything else, so it wasn’t too busy to look at.

Vector Art Designs

The last designs I made for part of my project were these vector illustrations of bakery foods. These could be used for window decals or as part of social media posts.

I illustrated three savoury and three sweet with different foods suiting everyone. I’ve used a vector cartoon style.
